This medication belongs to the calcium channel blocker family. It works by relaxing blood vessels. It also dilates the coronary arteries, ensuring increased oxygen supply to the heart, thus preventing angina attacks. It is used in: Treatment of high blood pressure. Prophylactic treatment of angina attacks, particularly in Prinzmetal's angina. How to use The capsules should be swallowed with a glass of water daily. Usual dose: Adults: One capsule of 5 or 10 mg daily. Children over 6 years: The dose is determined by the doctor. Warnings and precautions If chest pain occurs continuously within half an hour of taking the medication, consult your doctor before continuing treatment. Precautions are necessary in case of hepatic impairment and in the elderly. Warning: Driver: Due to its potential adverse effects, this medication may not be compatible with driving or operating dangerous machinery in some individuals. Ensure you tolerate this medication well before driving or operating machinery. Side Effects The most common are: drowsiness, dizziness, headache (especially at the beginning of treatment), palpitations, facial flushing, hot flashes, abdominal pain, nausea, heaviness or swelling of the legs, and fatigue. Uncommon (affects less than 1% of patients): insomnia, mood changes, anxiety, depression, tremor, taste changes, tingling in the extremities, sensory disturbances, malaise, visual disturbances (double vision), itchy ears, vomiting, indigestion, diarrhea, constipation, dry mouth, hypotension, shortness of breath, colds, hair loss, excessive sweating, itching, rash, cramps, muscle or joint pain, back pain, frequent urination, erectile dysfunction, breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia), weight gain, or conversely, weight loss. Very rare (affects less than 1 in 10,000 patients): allergic reaction, decreased white blood cells or platelets in the blood, high blood sugar, cough, swollen gums, vasculitis, pancreatitis, increased transaminases, jaundice, hepatitis. Disorders associated with incoordinating movements, rigidity, and tremor (exceptional). Drug Interactions Tell your doctor if you are taking a medicine containing any of the following: ketoconazole, itraconazole, erythromycin, clarithromycin, verapamil, diltiazem, rifampicin, simvastatin, or St. John's wort. Also, the hypotensive effect of this drug can be increased by some drugs such as alpha blockers (alfuzosin, prazosin), antipsychotics, antidepressants imipramine, drugs containing baclofen. Grapefruit juice may also increase the effects of this medication. Avoid consuming grapefruit (juice or fruit) during treatment. Ingredients The active ingredient is amlodipine.
