Aspirin-C is a medicine used to relieve pain, reduce fever, and reduce inflammation (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug/analgesic). Aspirin-C is used for: Mild-to-moderate pain, e.g., headache, toothache, period pain, painful symptoms associated with colds (e.g., headache, sore throat and limb pain) Fever You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 4 days. How to use The recommended dose is: Adolescents* aged 16 years and above and adults Single dose: 1–2 effervescent tablets Total daily dose: 3–6 effervescent tablets Method of administration Dissolve the effervescent tablets completely in a glass of water before taking them and drink the whole glass straight away. You should not take the dissolved effervescent tablets on an empty stomach. Warnings and precautions Do not take Aspirin-C If you are allergic to acetylsalicylic acid, other salicylates, ascorbic acid (vitamin C) or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6) If you have previously had a hypersensitivity reaction to certain medications for pain, fever or inflammation (salicylates or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) in the form of asthma attacks or in another form If you have acute ulcers in your stomach or bowel If you have an abnormally high tendency to bleed If you have liver or kidney failure If you have a severe heart problem (heart failure) that is not controlled with medication If you are taking 15 mg or more methotrexate per week at the same time During the last 3 months of pregnancy If you have or have ever had kidney stones If you have high levels of oxalic acid in your urine If you have an iron storage disease (hemochromatosis) Warnings and precautions Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Aspirin-C: If you are hypersensitive to other pain medicines (analgesics)/medicines that reduce inflammation (anti-inflammatory drugs)/certain medicines for rheumatism (antirheumatics) or other allergy-triggering substances If you have allergies (e.g., with skin reactions, itching, hives), asthma, hay fever, swelling of the mucous lining in the nose (nasal polyps), or chronic respiratory diseases If you are being treated with blood-thinning medicines at the same time If you have a history of stomach or intestinal ulcers or bleeding If you have impaired liver function If you have impaired kidney function or reduced blood flow in your heart and blood vessels (e.g., vascular disease in the kidneys, heart failure, reduced blood volume, major surgery, blood poisoning, or severe bleeding): acetylsalicylic acid may further increase the risk of impaired kidney function and acute kidney failure Before surgery (including minor procedures such as a tooth extraction): there may be an increased tendency to bleed. Please tell your doctor or dentist if you have taken Aspirin-C In patients with severe glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency: acetylsalicylic acid may cause accelerated breakdown/decomposition of red blood cells or a specific form of anemia. Side Effects Like all medicines, Aspirin-C can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The following list of undesirable effects includes all adverse effects that have become known under treatment with acetylsalicylic acid, including those under high-dose long-term therapy in rheumatoid arthritis patients. The frequencies beyond isolated cases relate to short-term use of the maximum daily dose of 3 g acetylsalicylic acid. Common (1 to 10 in 100 treated patients) Stomach and intestinal problems such as heartburn, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain. Storage Information Storage condition: Not to be stored above 25 °C. Drug Interactions Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or might take/use any other medicines. The effect of the medicinal substances or groups of medications listed below may be influenced if you are treated with Aspirin-C at the same time. Stronger effects including increased risk of side effects: Blood-thinning (e.g., coumarin, heparin) and thrombolytic medicines: Acetylsalicylic acid may increase the risk of bleeding if it is taken before thrombolytic therapy. Therefore, if you are to have this type of treatment, you must watch out for signs of external or internal bleeding (such as bruises) Medicines that prevent platelets in the blood from sticking together and clumping (antiplatelet drugs), such as ticlopidine, clopidogrel: increased risk of bleeding Other medications that relieve pain and reduce inflammation (non-steroidal analgesics/anti-inflammatory drugs) at Aspirin-C dosages from 7 effervescent tablets and more per day: increased risk of ulcers and bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract Medicines that contain cortisone or cortisone-like substances (except for products applied to the skin or used in cortisone replacement therapy for Addison's disease): increased risk of side effects in the gastrointestinal tract Ingredients The active ingredients are: acetylsalicylic acid and ascorbic acid. 1 Effervescent tablet contains: 400 mg acetylsalicylic acid (Ph-Eur.) and 240 mg ascorbic acid (Ph-Eur). The excipients are: sodium dihydrogen citrate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, citric acid, sodium carbonate.
