Description

Diclofenac potassium, the active ingredient in Cataflam, is one of a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs relieve pain and inflammation.   Cataflam relieves pain, reduces swelling and relieves inflammation in the following cases: Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, acute gout, low back pain, ankylosing spondylitis. · Migraine. Conditions affecting joints and muscles such as: sprains and strains, soft tissue injuries resulting from exercise, frozen shoulder, dislocations, and fractures. Conditions affecting the tendons, for example: tendinitis, tenosynovitis, arthritis.   It is also used to treat pain and inflammation associated with orthopedic, dental, and other minor surgeries. How to use Take the tablets with or after food.   Cataflam tablets are specially formulated to work quickly. Swallow the tablets whole with a drink of water. Do not crush or chew them.   The usual doses are as follows:   Adults 75 mg to 150 mg daily in two or three divided doses. The number of tablets you take will depend on the strength your doctor has given you.   To relieve migraine headaches in adults: Take 50 mg at the first sign of an attack. If the migraine is not gone after 2 hours, take another 50 mg. You can take additional doses at 4-6 hour intervals if needed, but you should not take more than 200 mg in a day.   Elderly patients Your doctor may advise you to take a lower dose than the usual adult dose if you are elderly. Your doctor may also want to check closely that Cataflam tablets do not affect your stomach.   Children over 14 years old 75 mg to 100 mg daily in two or three divided doses. Warnings and precautions You should take the lowest dose of Cataflam for the shortest possible time, especially if you are underweight or elderly. There is a small increased risk of heart attack or stroke when you take any medicine such as Cataflam. The risk is higher if you take high doses for a long time. Always follow your doctor's instructions about how much to take and for how long. If at any time while taking Cataflam you experience any signs or symptoms of heart or blood vessel problems such as chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness, or slurred speech, contact your doctor immediately. Side Effects Common side effects ( may affect between 1 and 1 in 10 in 100 patients ): Stomach pain, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion, flatulence, loss of appetite Appetite. Headache, dizziness, vertigo. Rash or spots. Elevated levels of liver enzymes in the blood. Storage Information Store in a dry place at a temperature below 30°C and protect from moisture. Keep tablets in their original container. Keep out of reach and sight of children. Do not take Cataflam after the expiry date which is printed on the outside of the pack. Drug Interactions Medicines for the treatment of diabetes. Anticoagulants (blood thinning tablets such as warfarin). Diuretics (water pills). Lithium (used to treat some psychiatric problems). Methotrexate (to treat some inflammatory diseases and some types of cancer). Cyclosporine and tacrolimus (used to treat certain inflammatory diseases and after organ transplantation). Trimethoprim (a medicine used to prevent or treat urinary tract infections). Quinolone antibiotics (to treat infections). Any other NSAIDs or cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors, eg: aspirin or ibuprofen. Mifepristone (a medicine used to terminate pregnancy). Ingredients Diclofenac potassium, silica, calcium phosphate, magnesium stearate, corn starch, sodium starch glycolate, povidone, microcrystalline cellulose, red iron oxide (E172), macrogol, sucrose, talc and titanium dioxide (E171). Specifications One pack of Cataflam 50 contains 10 sugar coated tablets or 20 sugar coated tablets.
