Cialis contains the active ingredient tadalafil which belongs to a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors. Cialis 5 mg is used to treat adult men with: - Erectile dysfunction occurs when a man is unable to get or keep an erect penis suitable for sexual intercourse. Cialis has been shown to significantly improve the ability to get a firm, erect penis suitable for sexual intercourse. After sexual arousal, Cialis works by helping the blood vessels in the penis relax, allowing more blood to flow into the penis. This improves erectile function. Cialis will not help you if you do not have erectile dysfunction. It is important to note that Cialis will not treat erectile dysfunction if there is no sexual arousal. - Urinary symptoms associated with a common condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) . This condition occurs when the prostate gland enlarges with age. Symptoms include difficulty starting to urinate, feeling that the bladder is not completely empty, and the need to urinate more frequently, even at night. Cialis improves blood flow to and relaxes the muscles of the prostate and bladder, which may reduce symptoms of BPH. Cialis improved these urinary symptoms as soon as one to two weeks after starting treatment. How to use Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you to. If you are not sure, check with your doctor or pharmacist. Cialis tablets are for oral use in men only. Swallow the tablet whole with some water. The tablets may be taken with or without food. Drinking alcohol may temporarily lower your blood pressure. If you take Cialis or plan to take it, avoid drinking too much alcohol (blood alcohol level 0.08% or more), as this may increase your risk of dizziness when standing up. Warnings and precautions Talk to your doctor before taking Cialis. You should be aware that sexual intercourse may be dangerous for patients with heart disease, as it puts additional stress on the heart. You should inform your doctor if you have a heart problem. Since BPH and prostate cancer can cause the same symptoms, your doctor will check you to make sure you do not have prostate cancer before starting Cialis treatment for BPH. Cialis does not cure prostate cancer. Before taking the tablets, tell your doctor if you have: Sickle cell anemia (red blood cell abnormality).
