Fast relief of nasal allergies and other seasonal allergy symptoms including sneezing, runny nose and itchy nose. Claritin is also used for fast relief of burning, itchy and red eyes. Fast relief of skin allergies, such as itchy skin and hives. How Claritin works: Claritin contains a long-acting antihistamine, which blocks the action of histamine and relieves allergy symptoms. Histamine is a chemical released by your immune system — which defends your body against substances — when your body is damaged by substances you are allergic to (allergens). The symptom-relieving effect lasts for 24 hours. Claritin does not cause drowsiness. It allows you to stay alert and focused while relieving allergy symptoms. How to use For the usual dosage: Adults and children aged 12 years and over: Take 10 ml once daily (10 ml measuring cup). The dosage for children aged 2 to 12 years is calculated according to their weight: Body weight over 30 kg: Give 10 ml once daily (10 ml measuring cup). Body weight under 30 kg: Give 5 ml once daily (5 ml measuring cup). Patients with severe liver problems: Adults and children weighing over 30 kg: Take 10 ml once every other day (once after every other day). Children weighing 30 kg or less: Give 5 ml once every other day (once after every other day). Claritin is not suitable for children under 2 years of age. Warnings and precautions Before taking Claritin Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if: - You have severe liver disease Side Effects Along with the desired therapeutic effects, Claritin may cause unwanted effects. Mild side effects that may occur include tiredness, headache, dry mouth, sleepiness, stomach and digestive discomfort such as inflammation of the lining of the stomach (gastritis) and nausea. Uncommon side effects include: increased appetite, cough, and dizziness. In rare cases, you may experience an allergic reaction to the medicine which may appear as a rash (a change in the skin that affects its colour or appearance) or difficulty breathing. In addition, hair loss, abnormal liver function, and rarely an abnormally fast heart rate or heart palpitations may occur. Very rarely, convulsions and restlessness may occur. Uncommon side effects in children include nervousness and nervous convulsions as well as side effects affecting the stomach or intestines.
