Clobetasol is a very potent topical corticosteroid indicated for adults, elderly and children over 1 year for the short term treatment only of more resistant inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of steroid responsive dermatoses unresponsive to less potent corticosteroids. These include the following: Psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis) Recalcitrant dermatoses Lichen planus Discoid lupus erythematosus Other skin conditions which do not respond satisfactorily to less potent steroids. How to use Once or twice a day you usually apply a thin layer of Clobetasol. This may decrease as your skin begins to improve, or stop as your skin improves. Your doctor may prescribe a weaker steroid for you to use instead. If you are also using an emollient (moisturizer), allow time for the clobetasol to absorb into your skin before applying the emollient. This cream is for use on your skin only. Do not use for more than 4 weeks without talking to your doctor. If you need long-term treatment, your doctor may decide that you need to use a milder cream or ointment. If your skin problem gets worse or does not improve within 2 to 4 weeks, talk to your doctor. Warnings and precautions Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using clobetasol if: You have previously had an allergic reaction to another steroid. Apply the cream under an occlusive dressing, including a baby's diaper. These dressings make it easier for the active ingredient to pass through the skin. You may end up using too much cream. Make sure to cleanse the skin before applying a new bandage to prevent infection. You are applying the cream to broken or damaged skin or inside skin folds. Apply it to a large area. You have psoriasis, your doctor will want to see you more often. You are using it to treat a chronic leg ulcer because you may be at increased risk of a local allergic reaction or infection. You are using it near the eyes or on the eyelids, as cataracts or glaucoma may occur if the cream repeatedly gets into the eyes. You are using it on thin skin such as the face because Clobetasol may cause thinning of the skin. Use on the face should be limited to 5 days. Bandages or dressings should not be used on the face where the cream is applied.
