The active ingredient in Diclomax, diclofenac sodium, belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs work by reducing pain and inflammation. Diclomax relieves pain, reduces swelling and reduces inflammation in conditions affecting joints, muscles and tendons, including: Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, acute gout (painful inflammation of the joints, especially in the feet and hands), and ankylosing spondylitis (a form of arthritis). Back pain, sprains and strains, soft tissue injuries in sports, frozen shoulder, dislocations and fractures. Conditions affecting the tendons, for example, tendinitis, tenosynovitis, and bursitis. The medicine is also used to treat pain and inflammation associated with dental and minor surgeries. How to use Take the tablets with or after food. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablets. The recommended dose is: Adults 75 to 150 mg daily divided into two or three doses. The number of tablets you take depends on the strength your doctor has prescribed. Elderly people The lowest effective dose should be used. Your doctor may advise you to take a lower dose than the usual adult dose if you are elderly. Close monitoring is recommended. Your doctor may also want to check closely that Diclomax is not affecting your stomach. Children These tablets are not suitable for children under 12 years of age. Your doctor may also prescribe another stomach-protecting drug to be taken at the same time, especially if you have had stomach problems in the past, are elderly, or are taking other medications. Warnings and precautions Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking diclofenac if: You have any stomach or intestinal disorders including ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease You have kidney or liver problems, or you are elderly You have a condition called porphyria. You have any blood disorder or bleeding disorder. If so, your doctor may ask you to have regular check-ups while taking these tablets. Have you ever had asthma, seasonal allergic rhinitis, nasal polyps, chronic lung disease or respiratory infections? You were breastfeeding You have angina, blood clots, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or high triglycerides Side Effects Sudden, severe chest pain (signs of a myocardial infarction or heart attack) Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing when lying down, or swelling in the feet or legs (signs of heart failure) Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body; sudden loss or blurred vision; sudden difficulty speaking or understanding speech; or a sudden migraine-like headache that occurs for the first time, with or without blurred vision. These symptoms can be an early sign of a stroke Stomach pain, indigestion, heartburn, gas, nausea (feeling sick), or vomiting (fatigue) Any signs of bleeding in the stomach or intestines, for example, when you have a bowel movement, blood in your vomit, or black or tarry stools Allergic reactions that may include rash, itching, bruising, painful red areas, peeling skin, or blisters Wheezing or shortness of breath (bronchospasm) Swelling of the face, lips, hands, or fingers Storage Information Store below 30°C.
