Epimag contains magnesium citrate which inhibit formation of calcium oxalate crystals and is an osmotic laxative. Epimag is used for: Prophylaxis of recurrent calcium oxalates. Mild laxative to relieve constipation. How to use The contents of one sachet are to be dissolved in half glass of water and given 3 times daily in case of prophylaxis treatment, but a larger doses for shorter durations is required if Epimag is used as a Mild laxative or as directed by the physician. Epimag should not be used as laxative for more than one week. If you take more Epimag than you should: Talk to your doctor or go to a hospital straight away. Remember to take any medicine that is left with you so the doctor knows what you have taken. Warnings and precautions Do not take Epimag if: You are allergic (hypersensitive) to magnesium citrate or to any of the other ingredients in Epimag (see Section 6: Further Information). You have abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and other symptoms of appendicitis. You have abdominal surgery. You have intestinal obstruction or perforation. You havehigh blood magnesium. Do not take this medicine if any of the above apply to you. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Epimag. Side Effects Like all medicines, Epimag can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. If you experience any of the following symptoms you should contact your doctor or go to the hospital straight away: The side effects include: Gastrointestinal irritation, abdominal cramping, nausea, diarrhea, and laxative dependence with long-term or excessive use. Fluid and electrolyte disturbances. Storage Information Store at a temperature not exceeding 30° C. Drug Interactions Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines. This includes medicines you buy without a prescription, particulary the following drugs: Aminoquinolones (e.g. chloroquine). Fluoroquinolones (e.g. ciprofloxacin). Nitrofurantoin. Penicillamine, and tetracyclines. Ingredients The active substances is: Magnesium citrate. Excipients: Saccharin sodium, sodium bicarbonate.
