Folic Acid 1 mg 20 Tablets

Description

Folic acid belongs to the B group vitamins. Folicum may be used : For treatment: Folic acid deficiency anemia caused by poor nutrition, poor absorption of nutrients (as in celiac disease or a digestive disorder known as sprue) or increased body need for folic acid (as in pregnancy). To prevent: Folic acid deficiency caused by taking some medications (drugs used to treat epilepsy, for example phenytoin, phenobarbital and primidone). Folic acid deficiency caused by long-term red blood cell damage or dialysis. Neural tube defects in children (eg spina bifida), for women at risk of having an affected child How to use Swallow the tablets with a glass of water . Dosage amount: Folicum tablets 5 mg Adults (including seniors) -    To treat anemia resulting from folic acid deficiency: 5 mg daily for four months, which may be increased to a maximum dose of 15 mg daily. -    To prevent folic acid deficiency caused by taking some medications: 5 mg daily for four months, which may be increased to a maximum dose of 15 mg daily. -    To prevent folic acid deficiency caused by long-term red blood cell damage or dialysis: 5 mg every 1-7 days. To prevent neural tube defects in children, for a woman at risk of having an affected child: 5 mg daily before pregnancy and continue taking this medicine during the first three months of pregnancy -    To treat folic acid deficiency during pregnancy: This medication should be continued at 5 mg daily until delivery. Use by children and adolescents The appropriate dosage form should be given to younger children. -    To treat anemia resulting from folic acid deficiency: Children aged 1 to 18 years: 5 mg daily for four months. Maintenance dose: 5 mg every 1-7 days. -    To treat hemolytic anemia and metabolic diseases: Children aged 1 to 12 years: 2.5-5 mg once daily. Children aged 12 to 18 years: 5-10 mg once daily. -    To prevent folic acid deficiency resulting from dialysis: Children aged 1 to 12 years: 250 micrograms per kilogram of body weight (up to a maximum of 10 mg) once daily. Children aged 12 to 18 years: 5-10 mg once daily. Warnings and precautions Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Folicum if:                                      If you have a folic acid-related tumor . If you are pregnant . If you suffer from any medical condition that reduces the amount of vitamin B12 in your body. Side Effects Like all medicines, Folicum can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Please inform your doctor if you notice any of the following side effects getting worse or if you notice any side effects not mentioned in this leaflet: Rare : (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people) -    Allergic reactions (hypersensitivity) eg red, itchy skin rash -    Severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic reactions) swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat or difficulty breathing or swallowing, shock (cold sweating of the skin, weak pulse, dry mouth, dilated pupils) -    Stomach and intestines : loss of appetite, feeling unwell, feeling bloated, flatulence) Storage Information Keep out of reach and sight of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and strip. Store the medicine at a temperature below 30°C, in a dry place, away from light. You should not take this medicine if you notice any obvious signs of damage. Drug Interactions Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription, and in particular: - Antiepileptics (used to treat epilepsy) eg phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone, sodium valproate and carbamazepine. - Antibiotics (used to treat infections) eg trimethoprim, chloramphenicol and co-trimoxazole. - Sulfasalazine (used to treat ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, or rheumatoid arthritis). - Methotrexate (used to treat Crohn's disease, psoriasis, or rheumatoid arthritis). - Lithium is used to treat mental health disorders. - Triamterene, an oral diuretic Ingredients Folic Acid, lactose, corn starch, colloidal silicon dioxide, microcrystalline cellulose, talc and stearic acid Specifications Product Form: Tablets
