Description

Gupisone tablets contain the active ingredient prednisolone which belongs to a group of medicines known as steroids. They are also known as corticosteroids that are naturally occurring in the body and help maintain overall health. Providing your body with extra doses of corticosteroids (eg prednisolone) is the best way to treat many conditions such as allergic reactions (eg asthma and eczema) and inflammatory conditions (eg arthritis). Prednisolone works by reducing the inflammation caused by such conditions. However, if such a condition is not treated it can continue and cause your condition to worsen. You must take this medicine regularly to get the maximum benefit from it. How to use Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water in the morning after breakfast. It is important to take your medication at the scheduled time. The recommended doses are: Adults : 20-60 mg as an initial daily dose (higher doses may be needed in special cases), the dose is reduced to reach the maintenance dose of 5-20 mg daily. Elderly : Your doctor may adjust the dose depending on the severity of side effects. Warnings and precautions Please talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking Gobizon, especially if : You suffer or have suffered from severe depression or manic depression (bipolar disorder). You suffer or have previously suffered from mental problems, for example “depression” or “psychosis” You have epilepsy (seizures) You or any of your family members have suffered from diabetes. You are receiving treatment for a condition called myasthenia gravis (a rare muscle disorder) You have had blood clots in the past (deep vein thrombosis and blood clots). You or a family member have an eye problem known as glaucoma. You suffer or have previously suffered from stomach ulcers. Side Effects Please tell your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following: Pancreatitis (very severe abdominal pain) Steroids including Gupizon can cause serious mental health problems. These problems are common in both adults and children. They can affect around 5 in every 100 people who take a medicine like Gupizon. These side effects include: Feeling depressed, including thoughts of suicide Feeling high (manic) or having a mood disorder Feeling anxious, having trouble sleeping, having trouble thinking or feeling confused and having memory loss Feeling, seeing or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations). Thinking strange and scary things, changing personal behaviour or feeling isolated. Feeling addicted to or dependent on this medication. Storage Information Store below 30°C, in a dry place Drug Interactions In particular, you should tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications: Medicines that thin the blood (eg warfarin) Medications used to treat diabetes (eg insulin) Medicines used to treat epilepsy (eg carbamazepine and phenytoin) Medicines used to treat high blood pressure (eg acetazolamide, furosemide and bendroflumethiazide) Medications containing estrogen, including oral contraceptives Medicines used to treat infections (eg rifampicin, erythromycin and ketoconazole - used to treat fungal infections) Medicines used to treat heart failure (eg digoxin).
