Humalog Mix50 QuickPen is used to treat diabetes. It is a pre-mixed suspension. The active ingredient is insulin lispro. Fifty percent of the insulin lispro in Humalog Mix50 QuickPen is water-soluble and works faster than natural human insulin because the insulin molecule has undergone a slight change. Fifty percent of the insulin lispro in Humalog Mix50 QuickPen is in a suspension with protamine sulfate, so it is long acting. How to use Wash your hands first. Read the instructions on how to use your prefilled insulin pen. Please follow the instructions carefully. Here are some points to remember. You must use clean needles. (Needles are not included in the product.) Prepare your QuickPen before each use. This means checking the insulin and emptying your QuickPen of air bubbles. There may be some small air bubbles left inside the pen. These are not harmful, but if the air bubbles are significantly large, they may make the dose you inject less accurate. Warnings and precautions Always check the package and label on the pen to make sure you know the name and type of insulin when you buy it from a pharmacy. Make sure you get the Humalog Mix50 QuickPen that your doctor has advised you to use. If your blood sugar levels are well controlled with your current insulin treatment, you may not feel warning symptoms if your blood sugar drops too low. Warning signs are listed later in this leaflet. You should pay attention to when you eat your meals, how often you exercise and how much you can. You should also monitor your blood sugar levels by checking your blood glucose levels frequently. Some people who have had low blood glucose after switching from animal insulin to human insulin have reported that the early warning signs were less pronounced or different. If you have frequent low blood glucose or have difficulty recognizing them, please discuss this with your doctor. If your answer to any of the following questions is yes , tell your doctor, pharmacist or diabetes nurse.
