Indicardin contains propranolol hydrochloride which belongs to a group of medicines called beta-blockers. It has effects on the heart and circulation and also on other parts of the body. Indicardin can be used for: Hypertension (high blood pressure) Angina (chest pain) Some arrhythmias (disorders of heart rhythm) Protection of the heart after a myocardial infarction (heart attack) Migraine Essential tremor (involuntary and rhythmic shaking) Certain thyroid conditions (thyrotoxicosis and hyperthyroidism, which are caused by an overactive thyroid gland) Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (thickened heart muscle) Phaeochromocytoma (high blood pressure due to a tumor usually near the kidney) Bleeding in the oesophagus caused by high blood pressure in the liver. How to use Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor, pharmacist or nurse has told you. Check with your doctor, pharmacist or nurse if you are not sure. Swallow Indecardin tablets with a drink of water before meals. Swallow the tablet whole. Avoid chewing the tablets. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to. Warnings and precautions Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Indecardin if you: Have allergic reactions to things like insect stings. You have diabetes as propranolol may alter your normal response to low blood sugar, which is usually accompanied by an increase in heart rate. Propranolol may cause low blood sugar levels even in people who do not have diabetes. You have thyrotoxicosis. Propranolol may mask the symptoms of thyrotoxicosis. You have kidney or liver problems (including cirrhosis). If so, talk to your doctor as you may need to have some tests during your treatment. She has heart problems. You have muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis). You suffer from conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchospasm because the use of propranolol may worsen these conditions. Channel blockers that have negative inotropic effects such as verapamil and diltiazem are used Side Effects Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people): Cold fingers and toes. Heart rate slows down further. Numbness and cramping in the fingers followed by a feeling of heat and pain (Raynaud's syndrome). Sleep disturbance/nightmares. Stress. Shortness of breath. Storage Information Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Store below 30°C. Store in the original package in order to protect from light. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the outer package after ''EXP''. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Drug Interactions Propranolol should not be used in combination with calcium channel blockers that have negative inotropic effects (eg, verapamil, diltiazem), as this may exacerbate these effects. This may result in severe hypotension and bradycardia. Other medications that may cause problems when taken with your medication are: Nifedipine, nisoldipine, nicardipine, isradipine, lacidipine (used to treat high blood pressure or angina). Lidocaine (local anesthetic). Disopyramide, quinidine, amiodarone, propafenone and glycosides (for heart problems). Adrenaline (cardiac stimulant). Ibuprofen and indomethacin (to treat pain and inflammation). Ergotamine, dihydroergotamine, or rizatriptan (to treat migraine). Chlorpromazine and thioridazine (to treat certain psychiatric disorders). Cimetidine (to treat stomach problems). Rifampicin (to treat tuberculosis). Theophylline (for treating asthma). Warfarin (to thin the blood) and hydralazine (to treat high blood pressure). Fingolimod (for the treatment of multiple sclerosis). Fluvoxamine and barbiturates (to treat anxiety and insomnia). Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (to treat depression). Ingredients Propranolol hydrochloride, lactose, calcium hydrogen phosphate, corn starch, colloidal silicon dioxide and magnesium stearate. Specifications Indecardin 40 mg tablets are white to off-white, flat, round tablets debossed with “APM 128” on one side in PVC-Aluminium Chloride strips.
