Rosuvastatin is used to correct levels of fatty substances in the blood called lipids, the most common of which is cholesterol. There are different types of cholesterol in the blood - "bad" cholesterol and "good" cholesterol. Rosuvastatin can lower "bad" cholesterol and increase "good" cholesterol. It works by helping to prevent the body from producing "bad" cholesterol. How to use The recommended dose is one tablet daily in the evening. This medicine is taken under medical supervision. Do not chew or split the tablet. The tablet is taken with a glass of water. The tablet is taken before or after food. Warnings and precautions Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking rosuvastatin: If you have kidney problems. If you have liver problems. If you have recurring or unexplained muscle aches or pains, a personal or family history of muscle problems, or a previous history of muscle problems when taking other cholesterol-lowering medications. If you drink large amounts of alcohol on a regular basis. If your thyroid gland is not working properly. If you are taking other medicines called fibrates to lower your cholesterol. If you are taking medicines to treat HIV infection. If you are taking or have taken in the past 7 days a medicine called fusidic acid. If you are over 70 years old. If you have severe respiratory failure. If you are of Asian descent - i.e. Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Korean, Indian. Side Effects These include headache, stomach pain, constipation, feeling sick, muscle pain, feeling weak, dizziness, diabetes, rash, itching or other skin reactions, and increased amount of protein in the urine - this usually goes back to normal on its own without the need to stop taking rosuvastatin tablets. Storage Information Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the package. Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C Drug Interactions Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications: Cyclosporine (used, for example, after organ transplantation), Warfarin or clopidogrel (or any other medicine used to thin the blood), Fibrates (such as gemfibrozil, fenofibrate) or any other medicine used to lower cholesterol (such as ezetimibe), Indigestion remedies (used to neutralize acids in your stomach), Erythromycin (antibiotic), fusidic acid (antibiotic) Oral contraceptives (birth control pills), Regorafenib (used to treat cancer), Darolutamide (used to treat cancer), Hormone replacement therapy, Ingredients Rosuvastatin.
