Jalra M is available in tablet form. Each Jalra M tablet contains two active substances: vilagliptin and metformin hydrochloride. Both substances belong to a group of medicines called “oral antidiabetics”. It is available in two dosage strengths (vildagliptin/metformin hydrochloride) 50 mg/850 mg, 50 mg/1000 mg. Jalra M is a medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes. It is prescribed in combination with diet and exercise in patients who are already receiving treatment with vildagliptin and metformin hydrochloride together, or who do not achieve adequate control of their diabetes with metformin hydrochloride alone, vildagliptin alone, or vildagliptin alone, or as a first-line treatment for diabetes in patients who do not achieve adequate control of their diabetes with diet and exercise alone. Jalra M is also recommended in combination with a sulfonylurea, diet and exercise in patients who are not adequately controlled with metformin and a sulfonylurea. Jalra M is also recommended as an add-on to insulin with diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in patients who are not adequately controlled with a stable dose of insulin and metformin. Jalra M helps control blood sugar levels. These medicines are called oral antidiabetics. How to use How much should you take? Your doctor will tell you exactly how many tablets of Jalra M you should take. The usual dose of Jalra M is one or two tablets a day. Do not take more than two tablets a day. Depending on how well you respond to treatment, your doctor may suggest a higher or lower dose. Your doctor will prescribe Jalra M either alone or in combination with another antidiabetic medicine depending on your condition. When and how should you take Jalra M? Jalra M is taken in the morning and/or evening. It is recommended that you take the tablets either with or just after food. This will reduce the chance of you getting a stomach upset. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Warnings and precautions Special caution should be exercised with Jalra M. Jalra M is not a substitute for insulin. Therefore, Jalra M should not be used to treat either type 1 diabetes (meaning your body does not produce insulin at all) or a condition called diabetic ketoacidosis. If you experience one or more of the following symptoms: feeling cold and uncomfortable, muscle pain, drowsiness, severe nausea or vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, or increased breathing rate. Very rarely, a condition called lactic acidosis (too much lactic acid in the blood) has occurred in patients taking metformin (one of the active substances in Jalra M). This is more likely to occur in patients whose kidneys are not working properly. If you experience nausea, sweating, weakness, dizziness, tremors, headache (signs of low blood sugar (glucose) levels) which may be due to lack of food, excessive exertion with not eating enough food, excessive alcohol consumption (usually not with Jalra M alone). Side Effects Some side effects are very common (likely to occur in more than 1 in 10 patients): Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite. Some side effects are common (likely to occur in more than 1 in 10 patients): Dizziness, headache, involuntary tremors, metallic taste.
