Janumet contains two different medicines: sitagliptin and metformin. Sitagliptin belongs to a class of medications called DPP-4 inhibitors (dipeptidyl peptidase IV inhibitors). Metformin belongs to a class of medications called pegionides. They work together to control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. This medicine helps improve insulin levels after eating and reduces the amount of sugar the body produces. This medication helps lower blood sugar levels in conjunction with diet and exercise. This medication may be used alone or with certain other diabetes medications such as (insulin, sulfonylureas, glitazones). How to use This medicine should be taken: One tablet, twice daily by mouth. With meals to reduce the chance of stomach upset. Your doctor may need to increase your dose to control your blood sugar level. If you have poor kidney function, your doctor may prescribe a lower dose. You should continue your diet while being treated with this medicine, making sure that carbohydrates are distributed evenly throughout the day.
