Merional HG contains hMG, extracted from the urine of menopausal women. hMG belongs to a class of sex hormones called gonadotropins. Its main physiological action in women is to stimulate follicle growth to maturity. An egg will develop in one of these follicles which will be expelled during ovulation triggered by the use of another hormone (human chorionic gonadotropin, hCG) which can later be fertilized. Merional HG is indicated in case of infertility in women with ovarian dysfunction, or in case of absence or irregular menstrual cycles due to weak or normal secretion of hormones from the pituitary gland.
