Microlut is a hormonal contraceptive that belongs to a group called “mini-pill”. Unlike “combined pills” (combined oral contraceptives), which contain two hormones, estrogen and progestogen, “mini-pills” contain only one hormone, and also in a low dose. Microlut is used to prevent pregnancy. Children: Microlut should not be used before menstruation How to use This medicine is to be taken orally. Please take the tablets whole (intact – whole – not divided – not split) with enough liquid (preferably a glass of water). The usual dose is as follows, unless your doctor has prescribed otherwise: One tablet daily. Microlut is taken continuously, meaning without stopping. This means that if you have taken all the tablets from one strip in a pack, you start taking the tablets from the next strip straight away. Microlut should be taken at the same time every day, as close as possible to the exact time of day and continuously without any interruption other than a tablet, and regardless of whether any bleeding occurs (monthly bleeding or even intermenstrual bleeding). The interval between successive tablets should be as close as possible to 24 hours. This time should not be exceeded by more than three hours in all cases to avoid compromising the contraceptive effect. Maximum reliability of Microlut can only be guaranteed if the time between taking the tablets is kept as close as possible to 24 hours. Warnings and precautions This section describes when you should stop taking the mini-pill immediately or when the reliability of the mini-pill may be impaired. In these cases, you should either avoid sexual intercourse or use other, non-hormonal methods of contraception, such as a condom or other barrier methods. However, do not use calendar or temperature methods. These methods may fail because taking the mini-pill can affect the monthly changes in body temperature and the mucous membranes of the uterus. Like all oral contraceptives, Microlut does not provide any protection against HIV infection or other sexually transmitted diseases.
