NovoRapid ™ is a newer insulin (insulin analogue) with a rapid effect. Newer insulin products are known as improved versions of human insulin. NovoRapid ™ is used to reduce high blood sugar in adults, adolescents, and children 1 year of age and older who have diabetes. Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce enough insulin to control blood sugar. Treatment with NovoRapid ™ helps prevent complications from diabetes. How to use Always use insulin and adjust the dose exactly as your doctor has advised. NovoRapid ™ is generally taken just before eating. Be sure to eat a meal or snack within 10 minutes of the injection to avoid hypoglycemia. If necessary, NovoRapid ™ can be given immediately after eating. NovoRapid ™ is for injection under the skin . You should never inject yourself directly into a vein or muscle. NovoRapid ™ FlexPen ™ is for injection under the skin only. Consult your doctor if you need to inject your insulin in another way. Warnings and precautions Some conditions and activities can affect your need for insulin. Consult your doctor: ► Have problems with the kidneys, liver, adrenal glands, pituitary gland, or thyroid gland. ► Exercise more than usual or want to change your usual diet, as this affects your blood sugar level. ► Sick, continue using insulin and consult your doctor. ►Traveling to distant areas may affect the amount of insulin you need and the timing of your injections. Side Effects Most common side effects: Hypoglycemia. Allergic reactions: Redness or swelling at the injection site. Itchy rash on the body. Breathing problems. Rapid heartbeat. Feeling faint. Swelling of the tongue or throat. Other possible side effects: Nausea. Vomiting. diarrhea. Fatigue. Storage Information Keep this medicine out of the reach and sight of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date Always place the pen cap on your FlexPen ™ when not in use to protect it from light. NovoRapid ™ should be protected from excessive heat and light. Drug Interactions Your blood sugar level may drop if you take: • Other medications to treat diabetes • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) • Beta blockers • Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors • Salicylates • Anabolic steroids • Sulfonamide group Your blood sugar level may rise if you take: • Oral contraceptives • Thiazides • Glucocorticoid medications • Thyroid hormones • Sympathomimetics • Growth hormone • Danazol Ingredients • The active ingredient is insulin aspart. Each 1 ml contains 100 units of insulin aspart. Each pre-filled pen contains 300 units of insulin aspart per 3 ml of solution for injection. • Other ingredients are glycerol, phenol, metacresol, zinc chloride, disodium phosphate dihydrate, sodium chloride, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide and water for injection. Specifications NovoRapid ™ is available as a solution for injection. Available in packs of 1, 5 or 10 pre-filled injection pens in 3 ml. The solution is clear and colorless.
