Description

Omeprazole is used to treat excess stomach acid in conditions such as noncancerous stomach ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that works by reducing the production of stomach acid. Omeprazole is an over-the-counter medication used in adults to treat heartburn that occurs two or more times a week. The presence of sodium bicarbonate also reduces heartburn quickly. Uses: It is used to treat heartburn. It is used with antibiotics to treat Helicobacter pylori. Treatment of stomach ulcers. Treatment of duodenal ulcer. Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Treatment of erosive esophagitis. How to use The recommended dose is 40 mg once daily as a single or two doses. Warnings and precautions Consult your doctor in case: - you experience kidney problems - new or worsening symptoms of lupus Do not take Omeprazole for immediate relief of heartburn symptoms. Side Effects If you experience any of the following symptoms you should contact your doctor or go to the hospital straight away: Symptoms of a cold include a stuffy nose, sneezing, and sore throat (especially in young people). Fever (especially in children). Stomach discomfort and gas. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Headache. Storage Information Store at room temperature below 25°C. Store in original package to protect from moisture. Drug Interactions Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of the following medicines: Ketoconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole or voriconazole (used to treat infections caused by a fungus) Digoxin (used to treat heart problems) Diazepam (used to treat anxiety, relax muscles or in epilepsy) Phenytoin (used in epilepsy). If you are taking phenytoin, your doctor will need to monitor you when you start or stop taking OMEPREX Medicines that are used to thin your blood, such as warfarin or other vitamin K blockers.
