Description

Alfacalcidol is an active vitamin D analogue that regulates calcium levels and bone metabolism. It is a vitamin D hormone analogue that is activated in the liver by the enzyme 25-hydroxylase to provide systemic and local D hormone activity. It exerts multiple different effects on the stomach, bones, thyroid, muscles and brain. Uses: It is used in adult patients with chronic renal failure to treat hypocalcemia, secondary hyperparathyroidism, or osteodystrophy. Treatment of nutritional rickets and malabsorption. Vitamin D dependent rickets. Rickets resistant to hypophosphatemia, vitamin D deficiency, and osteomalacia. How to use Adults and children weighing more than 20 kg: The usual starting dose is 1 microgram each day. This is either 1 brown capsule, 2 red capsules or 4 white capsules. Individuals typically take between 1 and 3 micrograms each day. Warnings and precautions Do not take Alfacalcidol: If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to facalcidol or any of the other ingredients. If you know you have a condition called hypercalcemia. This means you have high levels of calcium in your blood. If you know you have a condition called calcification. This means you have high levels of calcium in your body tissues. Warnings and Precautions: Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking Flucalcidol. If you are taking any other medications. If you have any kidney problems. If you have granulomas or sarcoidosis Side Effects You should get urgent medical help if you have any of the following symptoms. You may be having an allergic reaction: You have difficulty breathing Swelling of the face or throat Your skin develops a severe rash. Side effects: You feel weak or have discomfort in your muscles or bones. You need to urinate often. Feeling thirsty. Feeling tired. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. You are sweating profusely. You have been suffering from a headache. You are confused. Feel sleepy. Storage Information Do not store above 25°C.
