Alfacalcidol is an active vitamin D analogue that regulates calcium levels and bone metabolism. It is a vitamin D hormone analogue that is activated in the liver by the enzyme 25-hydroxylase to provide systemic and local D hormone activity. It exerts multiple different effects on the stomach, bones, thyroid, muscles and brain. Uses: It is used in adult patients with chronic renal failure to treat hypocalcemia, secondary hyperparathyroidism, or osteodystrophy. Treatment of nutritional rickets and malabsorption. Vitamin D dependent rickets. Rickets resistant to hypophosphatemia, vitamin D deficiency, and osteomalacia. How to use Adults and children weighing more than 20 kg: The usual starting dose is 1 microgram each day. This is either 1 brown capsule, 2 red capsules or 4 white capsules. Individuals typically take between 1 and 3 micrograms each day. Warnings and precautions Do not take Alfacalcidol: If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to facalcidol or any of the other ingredients. If you know you have a condition called hypercalcemia. This means you have high levels of calcium in your blood. If you know you have a condition called calcification. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. You are sweating profusely. You have been suffering from a headache. You are confused. Feel sleepy. Storage Information Do not store above 25°C.
