Meloxicam belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that are used to treat pain and relieve inflammation in muscles and joints. How to use Dosage Treatment of osteoarthritis: The recommended dose is 7.5 mg once daily. Your doctor may increase the dose to 15 mg once daily if the effect is too weak. Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis pain: The recommended dose is 15 mg once daily. Your doctor may reduce your dose to 7.5 mg daily if your symptoms improve. Take Oximal orally as a single dose with water and during a meal. Warnings and precautions Take special care with Oximal : If you have ever had esophagitis, gastritis and/or stomach ulcers If you have a history of stomach or intestinal problems (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis) If you are elderly (due to increased side effects) If you have recently had major surgery If you have liver, kidney or heart problems If you have asthma or have a history of it If you have an intrauterine device (such as an IUD) to prevent pregnancy, the IUD may not be effective. If you notice blood in your stool If you notice any skin reaction If you need to have a blood or urine test, always tell your doctor that you are taking Oximal. If you are planning to become pregnant or undergoing fertility tests If you have an infectious disease, this medicine may mask the symptoms. Side Effects The following side effects have been reported: Common: May affect up to 1 in 10 people Anemia (unusually pale and tired) Dizziness Headache Indigestion Nausea Vomiting Stomach ache Constipation Wind Diarrhea Severe itching Rash Swelling, especially in the lower extremities. Drug Interactions The following medicines can affect or be affected by Oximal: Anticoagulants, to stop blood clotting in the body, such as warfarin, heparin and ticlopidine Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin Lithium (for psychiatric illness) Methotrexate (for psoriasis and some cancers) Thrombolytic drugs (for heart conditions to dissolve blood clots) Cholestyramine (to lower cholesterol) Cyclosporine (immunosuppressant) Diuretics (water pills) High blood pressure medications such as atenolol and enalapril Corticosteroids (for asthma, infections, and after organ transplant surgery) Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (for depression) Intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) Ingredients Meloxicam, lactose, trisodium citrate, corn starch, colloidal silicon dioxide and magnesium stearate.
