The name of your medicine is Peptazol 30mg enteric coated pellets filled in capsules. The active ingredient in Peptazol capsules is lansoprazole, which is a proton pump inhibitor. Proton pump inhibitors reduce the amount of acid that your stomach makes. Your doctor may prescribe Peptazol for the following indications: Treatment of duodenal (gut) and stomach ulcers Treatment or prevention of reflux oesophagitis (acid from the stomach escapes into the food pipe causing damage and inflammation) Treatment of heartburn and acid regurgitation (too much acid in your stomach) Treat an infection caused by Helicobacter pylori. This is a bacterial infection which can cause inflammation of the stomach and can also cause ulcers. Treating Helicobacter pylori infection helps to heal these conditions and prevent them from returning. Treatment or prevention of duodenal or stomach ulcer in patients requiring continued NSAID treatment (NSAID treatment is used to relieve pain or inflammation) Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (where the stomach makes large amounts of acid. This can lead to diarrhea and pain in the stomach). Your doctor may have prescribed Peptazol for another indication or with a dose different from that which is written in this information leaflet. Please follow your doctor`s instructions for taking your medicine How to use Adults and children: The recommended dose and duration of treatment are individualized based on age and indication. The usual dose is 15 to 30 mg once daily. The dose is increased to two or three times daily if used for eradication of H Pylori. Take tablets or capsules before food. Swallow delayed-release capsules whole. Do not chew or crush delayed-release tablets or capsules. If you cannot swallow a capsule whole, open the capsule and swallow the contents with a small amount of food or juice. The soluble tablet form of this medicine dissolves quickly in your mouth with or without water. Do not break soluble tablets. Warnings and precautions Do not take lansoprazole: If you are allergic to lansoprazole, or any other ingredients of this medicine. Tell your doctor about the symptoms you experience. Warnings and Precautions: Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you experience an allergic reaction such as shortness of breath, rash, swelling of the face or neck. Use of this medicine may be associated with Clostridium Difficile diarrhoea (a bacterial infection in the stomach that causes diarrhoea). Be sure to tell your doctor if you experience diarrhoea. Prolonged, multiple daily use of this medicine may lead to osteoporosis (weak bones that cause fractures) and put you at risk for fractures of the hip, spine or wrist. Long-term use of this medicine may cause low levels of magnesium in your blood. Your doctor may recommend that you monitor your levels in the laboratory on a regular basis. Side Effects These include allergic reactions, diarrhoea, nausea, headache, constipation, stomach pain, low magnesium levels, seizures (convulsions), dizziness, abnormal or rapid heartbeat, nervousness, tremors, muscle weakness, cramps in the feet and hands, muscle pain, and throat cramps. Storage Information Store the medicine at a temperature between 20 and 25°C Store the medicine in its original package so that it is not exposed to moisture Drug Interactions Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any of the following medicines: If you are taking atazanavir (used to treat HIV). If you are taking warfarin (a blood thinner). If you are taking tacrolimus (an immunosuppressant). If you are taking theophylline (used to treat airway spasms).
