Pilocin™ is used for the local treatment of external and internal haemorrhoids. Haemorrhoids are the swelling of veins in the rectal/anal area that provokes local pain, smarting and itching. The first active substance, tribenoside, acts locally on the causes of the inflammation in the small blood vessels. The second active substance, Lidocaine, is a local anaesthetic which offers immediate relief from itching, smarting and pain caused by haemorrhoids. How to use As with all medicinal products, please follow all the instructions carefully to ensure that Pilocin™ works properly. You should ask your pharmacist if you have any doubts. When the symptoms are acute: Apply the cream locally, twice a day (once in the morning and once in the evening). When the symptoms have diminished: Apply the cream locally, once a day. Do not exceed the recommended dosing. Do not administer it to children without consulting a doctor. Avoid any contact with the eye and mouth. Do not swallow. For how long you should take Pilocin™ You should take Pilocin™ until the symptoms have disappeared. If the symptoms persist for more than a week you should consult your doctor. If you use more Pilocin™ than you should There is no known experience of overdose with Pilocin™. However, if you have used more Pilocin™ than you should, talk to a doctor or pharmacist immediately. If you swallow Pilocin™ by mistake, contact a doctor immediately. If you forget to take Pilocin™ If you forgot to use Pilocin™ at the time due, don’t worry: Just use it as usual at the time you were supposed to use it next. Do not take a double dose to make up for the forgotten ones. Warnings and precautions Do NOT use Pilocin™ if you have ever had an allergic reaction to Pilocin™ or to any of its ingredients. Take special care with Pilocin™ Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Pilocin™ if you suffer from a liver disease. A latex joint is present in the bottom of the tube of Pilocin™ rectal cream. Latex may cause severe allergic reactions. Take special care in handling the tube if you know you are allergic to latex. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding Do not use Pilocin™ during pregnancy, especially during the first three months of pregnancy, unless explicitly prescribed by a doctor. Do not use Pilocin™ while breastfeeding, unless explicitly prescribed by a doctor. In such a case, stop breastfeeding. Pilocin™ and children Do not administer it to children without consulting a doctor. Driving and using machines Pilocin™ should not affect your ability to drive a car or operate machines. Side Effects Like all medicines, Pilocin™ can have side effects. Pilocin™ is generally well tolerated. However, in rare cases it might cause skin reactions such as burning, itching or redness where you applied the product, or even spread beyond this area. Tell your doctor if you have any of those symptoms. In very rare cases it might cause severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic reactions) such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat (which may cause difficulty in swallowing), difficulty in breathing, severe itching of the skin or irregularities of the heartbeat. CONTACT A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY and STOP using the product if you have any of those symptoms. Possible side-effects due to the presence of certain excipients in Pilocin™ Cream: - Cetyl Alcohol and Cetomacrogol 1000 may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis). - Methyl Paraben and Propyl Paraben may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed). If you notice any side effects not mentioned in this leaflet, please inform your doctor or pharmacist. Storage Information Keep out of the reach and sight of children, it could harm them. Do not use Pilocin™ after the expiry date shown on the outer packaging and on the bottom of the tube. Do not store above 30 °C. keep it in the original package in order to protect it from light. Discard the tube after 3 months from opening. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment. Drug Interactions Taking other medicines There is no known problem to use Pilocin™ while you are taking other medicines. However you should always tell your doctor or pharmacist about the medicines you are taking, including those you have bought without prescription.
