Description

Postinor 0.75 mg tablets are used as emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy during unprotected intercourse, improper use of birth control, or sex without using any birth control technique. Levonorgestrel is a hormonal medication used as emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex, incorrect use of contraception (eg, missing routine birth control doses or condom slipping/breaking while using it), or sex without using any form of contraception. This medication should not be used routinely and is usually given as a backup method. How to use Women aged 17 years or older: The recommended dose is: If you are using the 1.5 mg tablet (the pack contains only one tablet): One tablet by mouth once within 72 hours of having unprotected sex. If you are using the 0.75 mg tablets (the pack contains two tablets), make sure you take one tablet followed by the second tablet 12 hours after taking the first tablet, and both tablets should be taken within 72 hours of having unprotected sex. If you vomit within two hours of taking the dose, be sure to contact your doctor to check if you should take another dose. Postpubertal adolescent girls aged under 17 years: The dose is the same as above. You will need to ask your doctor for a prescription before taking the medicine. • Take the tablet with or without food. • Take the tablet with a full glass of water. • Do not chew or Crush the tablets. • Take the medicine as soon as possible after unprotected sex; the medicine has been shown to be most effective when taken early. Warnings and precautions Emergency contraceptive and should only be used in emergency situations, such as failure of your regular contraceptive method or forgetting to take your regular contraceptive pill. Antifungal medications: Such as griseofulvin, which may affect the effectiveness of Postinor. Antiviral drugs: Such as some medications used to treat HIV, such as nevirapine, efavirenz, and some medications that induce liver enzymes. Herbal medicines: St. John's Wort, which is used to treat depression, can reduce the effect of Postinor. Some antibiotics: Such as tetracycline and amoxicillin, may interfere with the effectiveness of the drug.
