Profinal belongs to a group of medicines known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The active ingredient in Profinal is ibuprofen and each teaspoon (5 ml) of suspension contains 100 mg of ibuprofen. This medicine may be used to relieve pain and inflammation in conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis (including juvenile rheumatoid arthritis or Still's disease), arthritis of the spine (ankylosing spondylitis), joint swelling, frozen shoulder, bursitis, tendinitis, tenosynovitis, lower back pain, and sprains and strains. How to use You should always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Profinal can be taken with a little water, preferably with or after food. Remember to shake the bottle before use. Ibuprofen is recommended to be taken with food by patients with stomach sensitivity. Warnings and precautions Use with caution: Have an infection - Suffer or have previously suffered from bronchial asthma, chronic rhinitis or allergic disorders. - Liver, kidney, or heart disorders. - High blood pressure. - Elderly - Stomach ulcers, stomach bleeding or other digestive problems. - Dehydrated – Children, adolescents and the elderly who are dehydrated are at risk of kidney failure. -Medical condition that increases the risk of bleeding or have had bleeding in the skull - Have lupus or connective tissue disorders Side Effects severe headache, high temperature, stiff neck or inability to tolerate bright light - Bloody stool - Black stool - Vomiting blood or vomit containing dark particles similar to coffee grounds Please inform your doctor and stop taking this medicine if you notice any of the following: - Hypersensitivity reactions such as unexplained wheezing, shortness of breath, rash, itching or bruising. - Unexplained stomach pain or other abnormal stomach symptoms, indigestion, heartburn, feeling tired and/or vomiting. - Yellowing of the eyes and/or skin. - Acute sore throat accompanied by high fever (this may be a symptom of a condition known as agranulocytosis). - Blurred or disturbed vision or seeing/hearing strange things. - Fluid retention (eg swollen ankles). Storage Information Keep out of the sight and reach of children. - This medicine should not be used after the expiry date stated on the outer packaging and the inner label of the bottle. - Store below 30°C, away from light. After opening the package, use within one month. Drug Interactions Any medications used to treat high blood pressure - Any medications used to treat heart conditions - Any anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications - Lithium or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors - A medicine known as zidovudine - A medicine known as methotrexate - A medicine known as cyclosporine or tacrolimus - Any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving medication, including aspirin and a group of medications known as COX-2 inhibitors, for example celecoxib and lumiracoxib - Any of the corticosteroid medications - A specific group of antibiotics known as quinolone antibiotics - A specific group of antibiotics known as aminoglycosides. - Mifepristone - Any oral medication used to treat diabetes - Herbal remedy known as Ginkgo Biloba - Cholestyramine - Voriconazole or fluconazole Ingredients The active substance is ibuprofen.
