Proton 40 mg contains the active ingredient pantoprazole. Proton 40 mg is a 'proton pump inhibitor', a medicine that reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It is used to treat acid-related diseases of the stomach and intestines. How to use Always take Proton 40 mg exactly as your doctor has told you. Take the tablets one hour before a meal, without chewing or breaking the tablet, and swallow the tablet whole with some water. The recommended dose is one tablet (20 mg) orally daily. Warnings and precautions • Aave had an allergic reaction to medicines similar to this medicine • Have liver problems, jaundice (yellowing of the eyes and skin), anemia, bleeding in the stomach or intestines, unintentional weight loss, difficulty swallowing, persistent vomiting or vomiting blood, and any other medical problem. • Have ever had a stomach ulcer or surgery on your stomach or intestines. • Consult your doctor if you are undergoing continuous treatment for symptoms of heartburn or indigestion for 4 weeks or more. • Over 55 and take over-the-counter heartburn medications almost every day. • Consult your doctor if you are going to have an endoscopy or urea breath test before starting the medication. • Do not take this medicine as a preventative for stomach reflux. • Do not take any other heartburn medicine with this medicine, unless your doctor tells you to. • This medicine may increase your risk of stomach or intestinal infections caused by bacteria. Side Effects ● Severe allergic reactions: swelling of the tongue and/or throat, difficulty swallowing, hives (hives), difficulty breathing, swelling of the face (Quincke's oedema/angioedema), severe dizziness with very rapid heartbeat and profuse sweating. ● Serious skin conditions: skin blistering and rapid deterioration in your general health, blistering (including minor bleeding) of the eyes, nose, mouth/lips or genitals (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, Lyell syndrome, erythema multiforme) and sensitivity to light. ● Other serious conditions: yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (acute liver cell damage, jaundice) or fever, rash and enlarged kidneys, sometimes accompanied by pain when urinating and lower back pain (acute nephritis) and possibly leading to kidney failure. Storage Information Keep out of reach and sight of children. · Do not store above 30°C. · Do not use this medicine after the expiry date Drug Interactions ● Medicines such as ketoconazole, itraconazole and posaconazole ● Warfarin and phenprocoumon, which affect blood viscosity. ● Medicines used to treat HIV infection, such as atazanavir. ● Methotrexate ● Fluvoxamine ● Rifampicin ● St. John's Wort (used to treat mild depression). Ingredients The active ingredient is: Pantoprazole. Each enteric-coated tablet contains 40 mg pantoprazole (as pantoprazole sodium). Other materials are: Disc filling: Sodium carbonate decahydrate, crospovidone, mannitol, povidone K90, calcium stearate. Disc cover: Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Povidone K-25, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide Yellow, Propylene Glycol, Eudragit, Triethyl Citrate, Sodium Hydroxide.
