DL-alpha-tocopheryl acetate is the active ingredient of Vital E 400™ , is a man-made form of vitamin E. Although the exact role of vitamin E has not yet been worked out, it is known to play an important part in metabolismthe chemical reactions that are taking place in the body all the time. Vital E 400™ is used in certain illnesses which prevent the body from absorbing enough vitamin E from the diet. By taking extra vitamin E in the form of Vital E 400™, the body gets all it needs. The medical names for these illnesses are cystic fibrosis (an inherited disorder affecting the lungs, pancreas and other glands), chronic cholestasis (a disease of the liver) and abetalipoproteinaemia (a rare inherited disease which causes a deficiency of fat in the blood and severely affects growth). How to use Take 1-2 softgel capsule daily with food or as prescribed by your doctor. Warnings and precautions Do not take Vital E 400™ If you are allergic to vitamin E or any of other ingredients in the capsules. If you are allergic to soya, as this product contains Soybean oil. If you have hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency. Take special care with Vital E 400™ If you are taking an oral contraceptive pill. If you have ever had a thrombosis (a clot inside a blood vessel). Vitamin E has been reported to increase the risk of thrombosis in patients predisposed to this condition, including patients taking oestrogens. This finding has not been confirmed but should be borne in mind, in particular women taking oral contraceptives containing oestrogens. Precautions This formulation is not adequate for children. This category of patients will use pharmaceutical forms and age-appropriate concentrations. Vital E 400™ should not be administered concomitantly with other drugs containing vitamin E, unless the total dose of vitamin E administered does not exceed the maximum recommended dose due to the risk of hypervitaminosis. Side Effects Like all medicines Vital E 400™ can sometimes cause side effects, although not everyone gets them and they are very unlikely with this medicine. It is possible that you might develop diarrhoea or a stomach upset. Storage Information Do not store above 30 ºC. Store in a cool and dry place. Do not freeze. Protect from light. Drug Interactions Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including the oral contraceptive pill and any medicines obtained without a prescription.
