Voltaren Emulgel contains the active ingredient diclofenac, which belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal antirheumatics (analgesic and anti-inflammatory medicines). Voltaren Emulgel is used for pain and inflammation. As it contains water and alcohol, it has a soothing and cooling effect. Voltaren Emulgel is used for the topical treatment of pain, inflammation and swelling in case of: Injuries to tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints, e.g. sprains, contusions, muscle strains or back pain following sporting activity or an accident Localised forms of extra-articular rheumatism, e.g. tendinitis (tennis elbow), shoulder hand syndrome, bursitis, polyarthropathies And for the symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis of the small and medium superficialjoints, e.g. finger or knee joints. Voltaren Emulgel is intended for use in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and above. How to use The product is for external use only. Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and above Depending on the size of the painful or swollen area to be treated, gently rub, or for muscle pain, rub more firmly, 2 to 4 g of Voltaren 1% Emulgel (an amount the size of a cherry or a walnut) into the skin 3 to 4 times per day. Wash your hands well after application, unless the fingers are being treated. If you forget an application of Voltaren 1% Emulgel, apply it as soon as possible. Do not apply double the amount to make up for the forgotten application. If there is no improvement after one week, or if your condition worsens, see your doctor. If you do not have a medical prescription, do not use Voltaren 1% Emulgel for more than two weeks. Use the product for the shortest time possible and do not apply more than necessary. Children less than 12 years of age The use and safety of Voltaren 1 % Emulgel have not yet been established for children less than 12 years of age and its use is therefore not recommended in this age group. If an adult or a child (accidentally) swallows Voltaren 1 % Emulgel, seek immediate medical attention. Take the dose shown on the package leaflet or as prescribed by your doctor. If you think that the effect of the medication is too weak or too strong, tell your doctor, pharmacist Warnings and precautions When Voltaren Emulgel should not be used Voltaren Emulgel should not be used in case of known hypersensitivity to diclofenac (active ingredient) or to other substances that relieve pain, inflammation and fever (particularly acetylsalicylic acid/aspirin and ibuprofen), or in case of hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. The symptoms of such hypersensitivity include wheezing or shortness of breath (asthma), difficulty breathing, skin rash with blisters, urticaria, swelling of the face and of the tongue, and rhinorrhoea (nasal discharge). Voltaren 1% Emulgel must not be used during the last three months of pregnancy Precautions to be taken when using Voltaren Emulgel Voltaren Emulgel should not be applied to open wounds (e.g. grazes, cuts) or to damaged skin (e.g. eczema, skin rash). Stop treatment immediately if a rash appears after using the product. Voltaren Emulgel should not be applied to large areas of skin for a prolonged period of time, unless medically prescribed. Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes. In case of contact, rinse the eyes thoroughly with running water. Tell your doctor if problems persist. Do not swallow the product. Wash your hands after use (except for the treatment of finger joints). Voltaren Emulgel contains propylene glycol and benzyl benzoate: these ingredients may cause local skin irritation in some patients. Voltaren Emulgel should not be used with airtight dressings. Tell your doctor, or pharmacist if you have had any allergic reactions after using similar products ("antirheumatic ointments"), If you have any other disease, If you are allergic or If you are already using other medicines (including self-medication). Side Effects Application of Voltaren Emulgel may cause the following side effects: in rare to very rare cases, the side effects may be serious. Stop using Voltaren Emulgel and tell your doctor immediately if you experience: Skin rash with blisters, urticaria Wheezing, shortness of breath or feeling of tightness in the chest (asthma) Swelling of the face, lips, tongue and throat. The following side effects are generally mild and temporary: Common: skin rash, itching, redness, skin burning sensation. In very rare cases, increased skin sensitivity to the sun may occur. The symptoms of such skin sensitisation are itchy sunburn, swelling of the skin and blistering. Storage Information Store below 30°C. Drug Interactions Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you're taking any other medicines, if you’ve taken any recently, or if you start taking new ones. This includes medicines bought without a prescription. Some medicines may affect how Ventolin works, or make it more likely that you’ll have side effects. These include: Beta-blockers (such as metoprolol) used to treat high blood pressure or a heart condition.
