Zistan Tablets are used to treat the allergic symptoms of hayfever and other allergies. The active ingredient is chlorpheniramine maleate, an antihistamine which can help to relieve the symptoms of some allergies and itchy skin rashes. It can be used to treat the itchiness, redness, swelling, tenderness and irritation that can be caused by: Hayfever and other allergies e.g. pet, house dust mite and mould spore allergies Nettle rash and hives Skin allergies Reactions to food, food additives or medicines Insect bites and stings Also indicated for the symptomatic relief of itching associated with chicken pox. How to use Swallow the tablets with a drink of water Adults and children aged 12 years and over: Take 1 tablet every 4-6 hours (maximum 6 tablets in 24 hours) Elderly: Take 1 tablet every 4-6 hours (maximum 3 tablets in 24 hours) Children 6-12 years: Dose 0.1 mg/Kg. Take half a tablet every 4-6 hours (maximum 6 half tablets in 24 hours). The minimum dosage interval is 4 hours Do not take more than the recommended dose Do not give to children under 6 years If symptoms persist, consult your doctor Warnings and precautions Do not take Zistan Tablets: If you have ever had an allergic reaction to chlorpheniramine, any other antihistamines or any of the ingredients (listed in Section 6) If you are taking or have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) prescribed for depression in the last two weeks If you are taking other medicines containing antihistamines, including products for the relief of colds and coughs. Take special care with Zistan Tablets Talk to your doctor before you take these tablets if you have high blood pressure, epilepsy, an overactive thyroid, glaucoma, enlarged prostate, heart, kidney or liver disease, bronchitis, asthma or other similar respiratory problems. This product may act as a brain stimulant in children and occasionally in adults (see section 4) If you have been told by your doctor that you have intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before using Zistan tablets. Taking Zistan tablets can increase the effect of drinking alcohol Side Effects Like all medicines, Zistan Tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Children and older people are more prone to side effects Stop using this product and consult your doctor if you experience: Allergic reaction which can be sever. Signs include: Raised and itchy rash (hives) Swelling, sometimes of the face or mouth causing difficulty in breathing Collapse These reactions are rare Possible side effects: Very common (affects more than 1 in 10 People) Drowsiness and sedation Common (affects between 1 in 10 and 1 in 100 People) Disturbance in concentrating, un-coordination, dizziness and headache Blurred vision Feeling or being sick, dry mouth Fatigue Storage Information Store below 30° C. Drug Interactions Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, or have recently taken any other medicines. This includes medicines you buy without a prescription and herbal medicines. Zistan Tablet can affect the way that some medicines work and some medicines can have an effect on Zistan Tablet. Particularly: Phenytoin (for epilepsy) Medicines for anxiety or to help you sleep. Anticholinergic drugs such as (psychotropic medications and atropine) Ingredients Each tablet contains 4 mg Chlorpheniramine Maleate.
