Amydramine is used to relieve the symptoms of common coughs (eg, dry and/or productive cough or cough that causes discomfort) associated with upper respiratory tract congestion. This syrup contains diphenhydramine, which is an antihistamine that helps reduce coughing, and also works to reduce nasal and chest secretions, and sodium citrate, which in turn is a solvent for bronchial secretions, as it also works to reduce the thickness of phlegm. This medicine is used for children between 6 and 12 years of age. How to use You should always use Medramine exactly as your doctor has told you. You should also consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. It is taken orally only. Do not use more than the doses indicated below. Dosage: Children under 6 years old This medicine should not be given to children under 6 years of age. Children 6-12 years: 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Repeat the dose every 6 hours. Warnings and precautions This medicine may cause drowsiness, dizziness or blurred vision. You should make sure that your child is not affected by any of these symptoms if he is doing any task that requires him to be alert and attentive. You should also be especially careful if the child is taking another medicine that may also cause drowsiness. If the person taking this medicine is an older child or an adult, remember that this product may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Do not drive a car or operate machinery if you are affected by such symptoms. Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages. This medicine contains some ingredients that may cause a problem for the user of the medicine. This medicine contains sorbitol and sucrose: If you have been previously told by your doctor that your child has a problem with intolerance to some types of sugar, you should contact your doctor before giving this medicine to your child. This medicine contains sodium. This should be taken into consideration by patients on a sodium-controlled diet. Side Effects Like all medicines, Ambroxol can cause side effects, although they do not occur for everybody and are usually mild. Please stop using this medicine and seek medical help immediately if your child experiences any of the following: Allergic reactions including skin rash (which may be severe including blistering and peeling of the skin) and itching. Rarely, people may experience seizures. Abnormal liver function tests rarely appear in the blood. Please stop using this medicine and talk to your doctor if your child experiences any of the following: Rarely, people may experience an irregular or increased feeling of heartbeat (palpitations). Sleep disturbances. Storage Information Keep out of reach and sight of children. Do not take Amedramine after the expiry date which is stated on the package and inner label. Store the medicine at a temperature below 30°C. After opening the package, the syrup should be used within one month. Drug Interactions Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines including prescription medicines, non-prescription medicines, herbs, vitamins and supplements. If you are taking or have recently taken MAO inhibitors within the past 2 weeks. If you are taking antiepileptic drugs (such as carbamazepine) used to treat seizures. If you are taking tricyclic antidepressants (a type of medicine mainly used to treat depression). If you are taking anti-anxiety medications or sedatives (such as benzodiazepines).
