Otrivin 0.1% Adult Nasal Spray is used to relieve: Nasal congestion (blocked nose, including colds) Chronic or allergic rhinitis (recurring inflammation of the mucous membranes in the nose, including hay fever) Sinusitis, to help clear secretions trapped in the sinuses As an aid to the treatment of otitis media, to clear the mucous membranes in the nasopharynx To facilitate nasal endoscopy Otrivin 0.1% Adult Nasal Spray contains the active ingredient xylometazoline hydrochloride which helps to open and clear the nasal passages by reducing excess nasal secretions and returning swollen blood vessels to their normal size How to use Instructions for using Otrivin Metered Dose Nasal Spray: 1. Do not cut the nozzle. The metered dose spray is ready to use but must be primed for spraying before use. 2. Clean your nose. 3. Remove the protective cover. 4. Before using for the first time, prime the pump by applying a few pumping strokes until a uniform spray is released into the air. The next time you use it, the pump is ready for immediate use. Take great care not to spray into the eyes or mouth. 5. Hold the spray straight up with your thumb under the base and the nozzle between two fingers. 6. Lean forward slightly and insert the nozzle into the nostril. 7. Administer the spray and breathe slowly through your nose at the same time. 8. Repeat the process with the other nostril. 9. Clean and dry the nozzle before replacing the cap immediately after use. 10. To avoid possible spread of infection, the spray should only be used by one person. Warnings and precautions Do not use Otrivin if: You are allergic to xylometazoline or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. Y you have recently had rhinoplasty (brain surgery carried out through the nose or mouth). You have narrow-angle glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye). You have chronic rhinitis with severe dryness in the nasal passages (rhinitis sicca or atrophic rhinitis). Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any of the above, as Otrivin is not suitable for you in these cases. Side Effects Stop using Otrivin and seek medical help immediately if you experience any of the following which may be signs of an allergic reaction: Difficulty breathing or swallowing. Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat. Severe itching of the skin, with a rash, redness or swollen lumps. Irregular heartbeat Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people): Dryness or irritation of the nasal mucosa, nausea, headache, local burning sensation. Very rare side effects (may affect less than 1 in 10,000 people): Allergic reaction (rash, itching), blurred vision, irregular or fast heartbeat, medicine-induced swelling of the nasal mucosa (rhinitis medicamentosa). Medicinal products must be kept out of the reach and sight of children. Drug Interactions Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. In particular, you should not use Otrivin if you are taking: Certain medicines used to treat depression. These medicines are: Monoamine oxidase inhibitors: Do not use Otrivin if you are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or have taken them in the last 14 days. Tricyclic and tetracyclic antidepressants. Medicines that may increase blood pressure or medicines to treat Parkinson's disease (levodopa). If you are using any of the above medicines, consult your doctor before using Otrivin.
